Activities in the park consist of camping, picnicking, boating, fishing, water-skiing and hiking. Wildlife can be seen in the park and includes squirrels, chipmunks, porcupines, raccoons and more. The park is famous for the Donner Party ordeal and the Emigrant Trail Museum pays tribute to the event. The museum is located in the park. Located near the park is Donner Lake and the Truckee River.
